Ok, I decided to give this place a fresh start. Alot has been going on behind the scene's as far as the forums are concerned, and it was to the benifit of the forums to just wipe all of the old posts which werent many anyway.

Also, the forums should be a bit quicker; I've been going back and trying to optimize the code as much as possible, theres still more to do in every area im sure.

One more thing, you should be able to edit your posts and topics that you posted. It was kinda kobbled up last time, but thats all fixed up! Enjoy and still, dont be afraid to post questions!

did you change the way posts are stored, or just want to start over?

by the way, second post!

Well, when I initially setup the forums, i had it where formatting to text, like htmlspecialchar s and such was being done to ever post as it was displayed- instead, i changed it to being done when its inserted; then I can just echo from db.

Oh, and I did have a regex problem with quoting if the quote had breaks or newlines, but jester helped me out with that. This worked: ((.|\n|\r)*?) instead of just (.*?)

do you use preg_* functions? if so, you can just put an s after the last / which changes . from meaning [^\n] to really meaning anything at all. one of the ones i use is this:

Code:

/(\r\n|\r| n)?\[q](.+?) [\/q](\r\n| \r|\n)?/s

oops, told you i'd forget to log in...

also, the (\r\n|\r|\n ) i have at the beginning and the end are to ignore up to one line break before and after quotes, so that it doesn't get turned into <br />

I use preg_replace() for I believe, links and quotes. I thought that . did mean anything. Im no real expert at regex, and it can get real complicated like, real quick. But ((.|\n|\r)*?) did seem to solve the problem for me in this case. Perhaps I should experiment with the method you use! Thats just another thing to do to add to the list, hehe

I see; google can always be a help. But for regex, im sure its like anything else: the more you use it, the better you'll get at it. This is pretty much like the 2nd time i've used it for stuff on this website. The other was for search engine friendly urls on tutorials and code samples... which I could apply to the forums too

This site is pretty new... Its pretty much just me doing all the work, so progress goes kinda slow- expecially since work has been taking up all my time. Thanks for visiting! You comming here is proof the community might actually become a community! lol

but on the error, its fixed now, so edit away!!
