You want a
reliable host
that
doesn't
have an uptime
gurantee or
unlimited space
and
bandwidth?
This site is
hosted through
GoDaddy.com - I
find them cheap
and reliable
with all the
bandwidth you
could ask for.

i've used
godaddy for
domain
registration
and had no real
complaints.
my hosting (and
now my domain
registration,
which they
include with
hosting) is
through
dreamhost and
i've been very
happy with
them. i have
unlimited space
and bandwidth
-- not sure if
they're still
offering that
but the space
and bandwidth
you get is so
big you're
incredibly
unlikely to use
it all.
if you decide
on dreamhost,
please use my referral
link

Well, I spend
hours
researching/tal
king on live
chat to hosts,
had no luck
finding my
type. I wanted
to store
multimedia
files which is
against terms
of service in
all of the
webhosting
sites I've
found
(Unlimited
Space/Bandwidth
). Thats kind
of.... I don't
know. I always
though if I
pay, I could do
anything like
host mp3
(copyrighted? I
guess...).
Neither of the
hosts did that.
What am I
supposed to use
the space for
if I can't
even upload
media files.
But I found a
great FREE
webhost that
has unlimited
space/bandwidth
and your files
don't expire
(NO HTML/NO
PHP, only their
software,
forum, panel,
etc.). They
also allow mp3
files to be
uploaded. So
now I'm
looking for
webhost that
is:
99% (100% if
you can find)
UPTIME
GUARANTEED
And is on
really good
servers and
really fast
speed
Budget:
<$5/month
So I can just
stream mp3 from
my free
server.
Right now,
Dreamhost looks
like good
choice for me.
(They have
experience I
guess...)

dreamhost
doesn't have
any uptime
guarantee as
far as i know.
they have been
hosting for a
long time
though so they
do have
experience.
most hosts have
a terms of
service so
it's a good
idea to read
through that
and make sure
that what you
want to do
isn't against
them, since
that usually
gets your
account
suspended.

Why host your
files on the
site, when you
can host them
on a site like
fileDropper or
filefactory?

I don't think
you can stream
mp3s with those
services. I
considered
mediafire.com
(They allow
hotlinking) but
its like
$7/month. So,
I'm just
sticking to the
free site where
I could store
mp3s
forever.
Also, I setup
Apache on my
local desktop
computer
(computer that
sits getting
dust) for file
hosting. That
too didn't
work because of
the amount of
ram I have (5
hundred
something
megabyte). Its
really hard to
open a media
site unless you
got money
(Dedicated
server).

Theres a free
service called
Dynamic
DNS
if you have a
dynamic IP.
That could
help. Memory is
CHEAP anymore.
I've used old
RAM chips as
keychains, LOL.
I didn't know
you wanted to
stream. If the
MP3's are not
100% legit in
any way, I
would say your
idea is not
recommended.

Yeah I use that
service.
Ok, lets say
I'll replace
RAM. The only
problem I would
have is mess
with my router
to allow
outside users.
Which I have
trouble with.
It worked
perfectly last
year, after a
new firmware to
linksys, I
can't get it
to work. Also,
Linksys support
doesn't
help.

my isp blocks
the common
ports (80, 21,
and i think
8080) so
anything i host
from my house
has to be on a
different port.
that's why my
test site for
track7.org is
on port
8086.
i use dyndns
and all i have
to do at the
router is
forward port
8086 to the
machine running
the web server.
not sure what
you'd need for
streaming
though -- never
done that.
