Is there a way of hiding the middle pages with this tutorial so the first few pages and displayed and the last few pages so it looks like this

Sure! I've seen it done before... I dont have the exact answer for you but surely you could add an if statement and a query depending on what pages you want to display... I dont think it would take too long to figure out.
