My friend and I
are working on
opening a
Myspace
Resource Site.
We were
wondering if
anyone has
recommendations
on a turnkey or
script that we
could use. Any
information
would be
gratefully
appreciated.
more
information on
what ur exactly
trying to do

Hmm, turn-key
solution...
This site would
be useful to
you if you were
building the
site yourself,
and had
programming
questions along
the way. A site
like HotScripts.com
might have a
solution for
you.
You could use
scripts in this
site that would
aid in building
the site like
you want. The
problem with
using the
"turn-key
" or
pre-made
scripts that
you just upload
to webspace is
that your site
will be no
different than
someone else
that is using
the same
script. You
might have a
different theme
applied to it,
but its still
the same. Also,
widely used
scripts are
often prone to
exploits and
such (because
they are widely
used). So
carefully
consider each
option for what
you want.
I recommend
making your
site unique as
possible. To do
that, build it
from scratch;
that way is
exactly the way
you want and
you get all of
the credit as
well!

I was wondering
if you could
expand /
explain what
you meant
by....
widely used
scripts are
often prone to
exploits and
such
....
Would this
apply to
drupal...??
also what is
your experience
/ opinion of
this
package...?
thanks

duece,
Here is what I
mean about the
exploits on
widely used
scripts. Read
this thread: Site
Defaced?
In regards to
drupal, sorry I
do not know
anything about
the package. I
could lie and
spend a bunch
of time
researching it
and post what I
find, but you
should do that?
Perhaps someone
with experience
with it will
respond.

i haven't used
drupal either,
but in general
there's more
motivation for
someone to find
an exploit in
popular
software
because they
can use it on
more sites. in
general if you
keep the
software
updated,
you're mostly
okay because
the holes get
closed rather
quickly. for
sourceforge
projects there
are rss feeds
you can
subscribe to so
you know when
there's a new
version
available.
please note
that the above
post is likely
made up in its
entirety. |

Turn-key, neh.
I've looked at
packages like
joomla etc...
and I it would
be great to
have cms do it
all and you
just put in
some content.
Where's the
satisfaction in
that?
I have a long
range (3-5
year) outlook
on learning
programming. I
have some ideas
that I believe
will one day be
worthwhile.
The entire
reason learn
something is to
do something
greater, and I
know that once
I learn enough,
I will do
something
greater.
Same reason to
learn set
theory, because
you need a
solid
foundation in
order to solve
great
mathematics
problems.
(I'm glad to
be back, I've
remembered my
password after
about two
months. )

I should create
a 'change
password'
script.
